>I am not really interested to hear your opinions on how NYC or the US could do things to suit you better.
.......This car stuff goes well beyond NYC and personal tastes. It encompasses the entire Earth.
We in the US are so addicted to cars that any attempt to restrict them all hell breaks loose.

I have been trying to get basic painted bike lanes in my suburban town of 20,000 people for 20 years, You cant imagine the resistance even now that the environment is in the media. Forget trying for car free zones.
Yet I saw them when I biked thu small towns in France, Belgium, Holland.

In these 20 years I am the ONLY one using a bike/HPV for all my shopping and running errands.

After biking for a month in Europe and seeing bikes all over the place I landed at Newark airport and took a train home. In that 50 miles I didn't see a single bike in the towns or on the roads. Very depressing.

We in the US have a ways to go to do our bit for the environment, and need to accept suggestions.
We are using more of the Earths energy than any other country by a lot.

I think NYC is beginning to set a fine example for many Eastern cities with all the bike lanes and such. Car fee areas may be next.
