Greetings, MARSians. As promised, here’s some more information on the ride I’m hosting in a couple of weeks. Basics first, then details:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The ride will be May 16, with a rain date of May 17. If the weather’s lousy both days, we’ll cancel and maybe try again in June. We’ll meet at Huguenot Street Farm, 205 Huguenot Street, New Paltz New York, at 10am. The ride is about 40 miles long.
Description: The ride will depart from Huguenot Street Farm, 205 Huguenot Street, www.flyingbeet.com at about 10am, past the stone houses of the oldest continuously occupied street in America, before heading north through level farmland to artistic Rosendale. After strolling onto the trestle bridge for a breathtaking birds-eye view, we’ll continue along the Rondout River through rolling woodlands and past marinas, to the revitalized Rondout Harbor district in Kingston, the first capital of New York. After a riverside lunch at one of a number of restaurants, we’ll take a quick spin through the historic Stockade District, and then head back to New Paltz through more rolling woodlands, for a total mileage of around 40 miles (with opportunities for shorter loops of 20 or 30 miles for those who have to leave early). This ride does not include any truly strenuous climbs, but much of the ride is pretty much continuous rolling hills, and there are a couple that will give you a workout. Of course, non-recumbent friends are welcome.
Starting point:
The starting point is Huguenot Street Farm (http://www.flyingbeet.com). It has plentiful parking and running water, but does not have public restrooms (However, a mile into the ride we'll reach Water Street Market, which does).
Directions from the Thruway exit:
Turn left (West) onto 299/Main.
At the fourth light turn right onto 32N/Chestnut.
At the next light turn left onto Front Street/Lenape Lane.
A median triangle will force you to go right, onto Huguenot St.
Follow it for 0.6 mi, bearing left at the next stop sign (Mulberry) to stay on Huguenot Street. The farm is 205 Huguenot St and is on the left
The week of the ride I'll post a reminder to the list, repeating just the basic information. Hope to see you there!
Regards,
Eric
