[Bent] MARS finances

I don't want to sound like a poor citizen, but this is just another
reason why I don't wait at intersections for the light to change from
red to green. I go when it is safe to go. In fact, if there is no one
approaching the intersection on the crossing street (the one with the
green light), that's the safest time to go, because there is no chance
of getting whacked by some jerk turning right from behind you or -- as
happened to Dick -- from someone turning left in front of you. Starting
out from a dead stop at an intersection is so dangerous because you are
literally crawling, and are therefore totally unable to get out of the
way of a driver who claims s/he "didn't see" you.
But don't try it when a cop is in plain sight: it will be taken as a
challenge to their . . . well, their masculinity.
I'm just thankful that Dick wasn't more seriously hurt. I once lost a
witness in a case I was handling in Syracuse, when the witness got hit
by a car . . . going through an intersection! [It killed him.]
