Hi John,
Yeah, I had a ball. It was nice riding weather early in the week- about
80 during the day. Albuquerque is at 5000', so not as hot as its
southerly location would lead you to believe. They were having a hot air
balloon festival all week, & as they were short on launch crew, I
volunteered to help launch, chase & recover a balloon on Tuesday. The
tour was put on by InMotion bike tours, who carried our luggage, fed us,
reserved campsites & took good care of our 40 riders on the road- I was
the only recumbent. We did 280 miles for the week with a good amount of
climbing, topping out at 9100' on the toughest day (steep mountain road
with headwinds). It got colder & windier as the week progressed- the
last night we camped was below freezing.I'm attaching the route
elevation profile for the three toughest days- Day 3 was the hardest
climb I've ever done, miles & miles of clawing my way up the mountain at
4 to 5 mph in granny. Great views at the top,though- with a wild descent.
