Subject: [Bent] Recumbent-friendly cycle shops
Hi all,
I have been very satisfied using Bike Junkie, which is located in Bethpage, NY. Not only does Doug do reliable work, the prices he charges are very reasonable. He's done at least three or four gear/chain/(and/or) freewheel replacements, two shock absorber rebuildings and, among other things, Magura brake pad replacements for my hydraulics on, first, my Vision R45 and, subsequently, my more needful Vision R55 (the one with shocks and hydraulics and the internal 3-speed hub which I finally got rid of).
His phone number is 516-932-7271 and he's open from noon to 9 pm, generally. He's located within walking distance of the Bethpage LIRR station and is accessible from both the Seaford Oyster Bay Expy (Route 135) and Bethpage Pky. If you make an appointment first, he'll do some repairs on the spot.
In fact, we just bought my son a 29-inch tired Cannondale from him. I couldn't talk my son into buying a recumbent. He'd rather jump up and down curbs and the occasional stairs. Except, he's 37 yrs old. What can I tell ya?

I have just moved back to NYC. (I had lived here from 1974 to 1994.) I needed help finding brake pads for my hydraulic brakes. I went to Bicycle Habitat today (on Lafayette street). I was told that the repair department do not want to work on recumbents. I had gone to Bicycle Habitat when I had lived in New York and was introduced to recumbents with a test ride on a Tour Easy.
Does my experience with Bicycle Habitat sound odd! It did to me. In any case is/are there any recumbent friendly/knowledgeable bike shops in Manhattan or anywhere in NYC?
Dan
