Hi steve,
I've been using Hobie's pedal-powered device for many years and love it.
Keeps hands free for fishing, photography, whatever.
No zig-zag-wig-wag wasted motion.
My two strong sons challenged their old man to a race. They were both
in one canoe paddling hard. I won hands down and hands up. Leg Power
or should I say "Duck Power."
As you likely know, the leg motion is unlike the circular motion used
with bikes. It is a slightly modified forward and back pattern with
simple adjustment for a range of leg lengths.
Down side? Mostly clearance problems in shallow or rocky waters. Oh,
and no reverse! Best to keep a paddle on board for both such situations.
When a bolt froze due to galvanic reaction (of two dissimilar metals)
The nice folks at Hobbie sent a new kayak free!
We're in Pound Ride, NY. Try it out anytime you wish. Call 914 7644270
re ice-on-pond matters or for more info.
